Chrissy Teigen’s Cookware Pulled From Target, Macy’s After Cyberbullying Nonbinary Star Courtney Stodden

Social media maven Chrissy Teigen is “mortified and sad” at who she used to be, according to multiple tweets she sent after being called out by Courtney Stodden for comments she made when the model and musician was just 16. Stodden, who is nonbinary and uses the pronouns they and them, caught a lot of attention at the age of 16, in 2011, when she married actor Doug Hutchison, who was 50.

At the time, Teigen directed a torrent of tweets to the couple and went so far as to wish Stodden death.

“[Chrissy] wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap,’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself,” Stodden confessed to the Daily Beast. “Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die.’”

Looking back on her behavior, Teigen told her 13.6 million followers in one tweet that she was “mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention-seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.”

And, in another, “I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly. These were not my only mistakes and surely won’t be my last as hard as I try but god I will try!!”

Teigen said that she had reached out directly to Stodden.

“I have tried to connect with Courtney privately but since I publicly fueled all this, I want to also publicly apologize. I’m so sorry, Courtney. I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am.”

For her part, Stodden says she hasn’t heard from Teigen, but that she is open.

“I accept her apology and I forgive her,” they posted to Instagram. “But the truth remains the same. I have never heard from her or her camp in private. In fact, she blocked me on Twitter. All of me wants to believe this is a sincere apology, but it feels like a public attempt to save her partnerships with Target and other brands who are realizing her ‘wokeness’ is a broken record.”

Newsweek reported that on Friday, Target removed Teigen’s “Cravings” range of cookware, with Macy’s doing the same.
